The Golden Rule of Netiquette is to do unto others on the internet as you would have done to you.

This rule is included in the netiquette philosophy to give it a spiritual, moral, and ethical basis. It is the universal rule of netiquette designed to promote goodwill. Practically, applied the Golden Rule of Netiquette is to be nice.

This rule is not literal. There are things you cannot do to others no matter what based on principle. For example, it is bad netiquette to kill anybody. Be kind.

The Golden Rule of Netiquette is the basic spiritual foundation. The Ten Core Rules of Netiquette are the regalatory parameters. Both concepts are part of the netiquette philosophy.

Simply put, the netiquette philosophy is to be nice and communicate effectively with electronic devices.
